‘The Wheel Community’ podcast ep 39 is available! Maggie Barton, a member of the Sweet Spot cycling team, was my guest this week. In our talk she shared her beginnings of riding a fixed gear bike around Richmond for fun and transportation and eventually deciding to complete the 2 day Bike MS 150 ride, to starting indoor trainer workouts at a local bike shop then getting recognized for her abilities and encouraged to try racing, to fully embracing a life of road racing and cyclocross events, and discovering she loves climbing.

‘The Wheel Community’ podcast episode 38 is in the wild! This week I get to share the cycling story of Kim Moore, VP of RABA in 2022. She told the story of riding a tandem up to Ashland on her first bike ride as an adult with almost no riding experience prior to, being encouraged to start riding by her husband, her early days of joining RABA and finding fellowship with the club, preparing for her first Bike VA event with soon to be discovered lifelong friends, and what keeps her riding now.

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 37 has been published! On this week's episode I had the pleasure of talking with Tamara Broadnax and Sandy Norman from Black Girls Do Bike Richmond Chapter. They shared the beginnings and growth of the Richmond Chapter of Black Girls Do Bike, how the organization works to promote cycling for women of color, along with each of their own stories from their cycling experience.

On the morning of Saturday August 13, 2022, 2 female riders (Jonah Holland & Natalie Rainer) were struck by a drunk driver on a clear section of road in Varina, Virginia. Natalie was severely injured and Jonah did not survive her injuries at the scene. I wanted to say something about this tragic incident and share a few thoughts. 

Jonah is survived by a son and daughter, if you would like to provide any assistance to the family please let me know. Natalie Rainer has extensive injuries and has a long road of recovery ahead of her. A ‘GoFundMe’ page (see link below) has been set up to help with the medical expenses for that recovery, if you can provide any assistance I know she and her family would be immensely thankful (donations can be given anonymously).

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 35 is out now! Come listen to my talk with David Randolph with Wolf Pack Alpha cycling club. During our chat David shared his experience doing solo rides in Roanoke, VA in his early riding, his initial encounters with members of the Wolf Pack on the Virginia Capital Trail, switching to bib shorts, getting different bikes, noticing his fitness gains from riding with faster riders and now preferring group rides.

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 34 is out now! This week I talked with Matt Juaneza. In our talk Matt shared how he got started riding the James River Park System trails in college, when we began participating and racing in off-road events, getting his first cycling jersey, what motivates him to keep riding, when he challenged himself to lose weight by his 30th birthday (then put some back on), and other entertaining stories from his time behind bars.

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 33 has been published! Russ Starke, President of RABA for 2022 was my guest this week. During our talk we covered his history with RABA and cycling in the area, his time bike racing and using classic trainers, providing support for professional bike races, an epic bike ride going 1000+ miles around the perimeter of Virginia, and other interesting topics from his time riding.

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 32 is LIVE! This week I talked with Keith Van Inwegen about his time on 2 wheels. We talked of when he participated in his first Cap2Cap ride, the time he rode from Richmond to Blacksburg and back, his appreciation for off-road and on-road riding, and other tales from the ‘big dumb rides’ he’s completed.

‘The Wheel Community’ episode 31 has been published! This week I talked with Erin Horil, coach with Endorphin Fitness. During our entertaining talk we covered her time with the JMU Triathlon club, how she enjoys the structure of training, becoming a triathlon coach with Endorphin Fitness, our mutual enjoyment of stroopwafels, and other fun stories from her active life.
